What is your biggest struggle when moving abroad?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering what everyone struggles with when it comes to moving abroad. I mean we all know it isn't an easy thing to do and there are many hurdles, but what do you find the hardest.

In my case, it is saving enough money so that i have a couple of months to settle in before finding a job.

    What do you struggle with?

For me, I think the culture difference is a big problem for me, I don't know what's the meaning when they say "good, good", hard to understand sometimes!

The biggest struggle for me to move abroad is to familiar with local people and start new relationship with them. Actually that means well settleing down. What's more, find a new job which can support the new life also a big problem.

Its tough being away from friends and family.

I normally just use whatsapp and skype to stay in touch.

What tools do you use or recommend for the best experience and practicality

I think the hardest thing for me, about living in China for 2 years was the aspects of their culture that I just blatantly disagreed with. There are unique aspects to every culture and in almost every country I've ever been to, I've found that the longer I'm there the more I start to understand and appreciate why the locals do the things they do. For me, things start to become a little better with understanding. In China though, I found that there were aspects of their society that I would never get used to. Things like inefficiency in businesses, staring at people not being perceived as rude and the worst of all ... mass internet censorship and government control.

I live in Belfast now and have exactly the same feeling. Nobody seems to be interested to go to the concerts I'd like to go to! :-)

Apart from that, I miss my family and friends the most. Seeing my nephews growing up via Facebook or seeing pics of my friends hanging out together... not always easy.

But then again, having the chance of living somewhere else outweighs most of it!

What is it that you're doing in Africa?

Did you find everything you need? It's pretty western after all :)

I assume you're talking about moving to a place to live rather than nomadic travelling. I think it varies from place to place. I moved to Tokyo for a year and my biggest concern was having everything I needed. I knew I'd not be able to buy things like shoes and work clothes so had to take everything I needed.
